Frequently Asked Questions About Cabot Medical, PLLC
What is Cabot Medical?
Cabot Medical is a physician-led telehealth practice specializing in medical weight loss. We connect patients in Michigan and Ohio with board-certified physicians who evaluate your health history and, when appropriate, prescribe FDA-approved weight loss medication — all online, on your schedule.
Is this a real medical practice?
Cabot Medical is a licensed boarded and insured medical practice based in Michigan founded and led by a board-certified family medicine physician. Every patient is evaluated by a licensed physician before any prescription is issued. We are not a pharmacy or a discount drug site — we’re a medical practice that specializes in delivering care asynchronously.
What states do you serve?
Currently Michigan and Ohio, with additional state licensure in progress. You must be physically located in a state where your treating physician is licensed at the time of your visit.
How It Works
What does “asynchronous telehealth” mean?
Instead of booking a live video call, you complete a detailed online health questionnaire on your own time. A licensed physician reviews your intake, medical history, and any labs or photos you provide, then responds typically within 24 hours with a treatment plan, recommendation for a video or phone visit, or follow-up questions. No need for waiting rooms or travel to the clinic.
How do I get started?
- Complete the online intake questionnaire (health history, current medications, weight-loss goals).
- A physician reviews your information and determines eligibility.
- If approved, you receive a personalized treatment plan and weight loss medication prescription.
- Medication ships directly from the manufacturer’s pharmacy network to your door.
How long does approval take?
Our goal is to have your case reviewed by a physician within 24 hours of submitting a complete intake.
Do I need labs or bloodwork?
Depending on your health history, our physicians may request recent labs before prescribing. If you don’t have recent labs, we’ll advise you on next steps.
Medications & Treatment
What medications do you prescribe?
We prescribe FDA-approved GLP-1 and GIP medications for weight management, including semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Zepbound), sourced through manufacturer-direct pharmacy programs like NovoCare and LillyDirect.
Do you prescribe compounded medications?
No. Cabot Medical prescribes FDA-approved medications only, filled through manufacturer-direct pharmacies — not compounding pharmacies. We do this to insure our patients receive the safest and highest quality prescriptions. Compounded GLP-1 medications are not FDA approved and lack quality testing. In large part, prescribing compounded GLP-1 medications is illegal in the United States.
Why should I pay for FDA-approved GLP-1 medications if some compounded pharmacies are cheaper?
Compounded GLP-1 medications are not federally regulated at this time, and are often times ineffective and additionally can be dangerous. These medications may be contaminated, cause infections, or alter your body’s normal functioning. Bottom line, they are not safe. At this time, in nearly all instances, prescribing compounded GLP-1 medications is also ILLEGAL in the United States.
Am I a candidate for weight loss medication?
Eligibility is determined individually based on your BMI, health history, and goals. Many patients with a BMI of 27+ (with a weight-related health condition) or 30+ qualify. Your intake questionnaire and physician review will confirm eligibility.
What if the medication isn’t right for me, or I have side effects?
Your prescribing physician remains available for follow-up throughout treatment. If you experience side effects or the plan needs adjustment, message your care team through the patient portal. We can facilitate virtual or phone visits if needed as well.
Cost & Payment
Do you accept insurance?
No — Cabot Medical operates on a cash-pay basis. This lets us avoid the delays, denials, and prior-authorization hurdles common with insurance-covered weight loss care. We do not bill insurance.
How much does it cost?
Pricing varies by medication and dose. Because we source through manufacturer-direct programs (NovoCare, LillyDirect), our medication pricing reflects those programs’ current rates. Visit our pricing page for current medication costs. Signing up for the monthly subscription is required to receive care and you will have access to our doctors for the duration.
Are there hidden fees?
No. You only pay for the subscription to receive medical care and pay for the medication through the pharmacy. (Lilly Direct or NovoCare)
How do I receive and pay for my medication?
Depending on which GLP-1 medication is prescribed, Eli Lilly or Novo Nordisk will contact you via text or email to facilitate payment and delivery of the medications directly to your door.
Can I use my HSA/FSA?
Yes, for the vast majority of patients. Check with your HSA/FSA administrator if you have questions as your eligibility rules may vary by plan.
Privacy & Safety
Is my information private?
Yes. Cabot Medical is fully HIPAA-compliant. Your health information is protected and never sold or shared for marketing purposes. Full details are in our Notice of Privacy Practices.
Who reviews my information?
A licensed, board-certified physician personally reviews every consultation — not an algorithm and not unsupervised staff.
Is telehealth prescribing legal?
Yes. Telehealth prescribing for weight management is legal and regulated in Michigan and Ohio. Your treating physician is licensed in your state and follows all applicable telehealth and prescribing regulations and laws.
